Chain-sharp Dual Sharpening Tool 8in X 5/32in for 3/8in Low Profile Chain

best chainsaw sharpener for field use
This is a great tool for keeping your chainsaw sharp in the field with a minimum expenditure of time. You will need to get the proper Pferd tool to hold the size of round file that is right for your chain.

To keep my chainsaw in optimum shape, I find it best to sharpen the chain with each refueling. This means I want to achieve accurate sharpening very quickly.

It is necessary to 1) control depth of the round file from the top plate, 2) set the top plate filing angle (often 30 deg.), 3) take down the the height of the depth gauges, and 4) keep the length of the cutters close to equal. The Pferd tool takes care of Steps (1) to (3).

The Pferd file guide controls the depth of the round file by sliding on two teeth--very stable. Only a plate angle of 35 deg. is marked on the tool, but I did not find it hard make an adjustment to 30 deg. by eye for my chain. If you make the angle sharper than it should be, the saw will become more aggressive and somewhat...

Very easy to and effective.
Purchased this to keep my wood cutting costs down. Sharpening was costing me about $8 per chain, not to mention gas. You need to read the directions and pay attention to what is being sharpened. I accidentally was filing down my links as well as the cutters because I was not looking to see what I was doing (easy to see the shiny newly ground areas of the chain if you just look). This resulted in my chain breaking loose while cutting! That was the first and last time I did that. Pay attention, take your time and this tool works fantastically!

great for me
I have a chainsaw but that doesn't make me a logger. I've struggled with consistancy when sharpening chainsaw blades and this tool has made my life easier. I'm an occasional chainsaw user but I've used it enough to know that when a blade is dull life sucks. Since using this sharpener life is good now.
